28 December 2011
The birth of AleniaAermacchi: a new logo and a new name that reflect all the tradition and experience of the Italian aeronautics industry
On 1 January 2012 the new AleniaAermacchi, a Finmeccanica company, will take off flying throughout the world, as the merger of Alenia Aeronautica and its subsidiaries Alenia Aermacchi e Alenia SIA becomes effective.
The company will have a new “AleniaAermacchi” logo, resulting from the combination of the two pre-existing “Alenia” and “Aermacchi” trademarks, which encapsulates a century of history, tradition, experience and success of the Italian aeronautics industry.
Giuseppe Giordo, the Chief Executive Officer of the new AleniaAermacchi and Head of Finmeccanica’s Aeronautics Sector, said: “This merger will bring together an extraordinary wealth of knowledge, technology and products, to ensure that the Italian aeronautics industry will continue to play a leading role in an increasingly global market in the years to come”.
Attention is called to the new company’s key features. Venegono Superiore (Varese), the traditional headquarters of Aermacchi, will house the registered office while Pomigliano d’Arco (Naples) and Torino Caselle will act as operational headquarters for the civil and defence aircraft sectors, respectively. The operational headquarters will be the hub of the manufacturing activities performed by six different Integrated Manufacturing Centres (training systems, defence aircraft, military transportation aircraft, civil aircraft, composite materials, metal structures) distributed over nine sites located throughout Italy, with a total of 12,000 employees.
The integration between Alenia Aeronautica and Alenia Aermacchi will trigger industrial synergies, with significant economies of scale, in terms of both processes and products, through the strengthening of engineering, the redefinition of production systems and the related supply chain in view of the specialisation of each site by technology/product.
